Hi, I’m Barbara, the maker behind CraftyBabs.

I’m in my 40s, live in Edinburgh, and I’m mum to Freya — which means a lot of my days are a mix of work, making, school runs, activity runs and somehow needing my morning coffee before any of it makes sense.

When I’m not creating for CraftyBabs, I work as a carer for a lovely lady. Then, like many parents, I turn into an unofficial taxi driver, taking my daughter here, there and everywhere. CraftyBabs fits into the little pockets of real life: a bit of making before the day starts, a bit of shaping after work, a bit of packing when the house finally goes quiet.

I have always been drawn to handmade things. I learned crochet, wandered into macramé for a while, and then found knitted wire — and that is where CraftyBabs really began to feel like me. There is something so calming about it: feeding the soft yarn onto the wire, shaping a name letter by letter, creating the loops and curves, stitching the joins together and watching a simple strand become something personal.

I make personalised knitted wire names, words and happy little shapes for children’s rooms, nurseries, bedroom doors, reading corners and thoughtful gifts. I love colour — especially purples, greens and blues — but most of all I love helping people choose something that feels right for their little one’s room.

CraftyBabs is for little rooms full of joy. The sweet ones, the wild ones, the daydreamers, the gigglers and the “just one more story” negotiators. The tiny cheeky faces who make ordinary days brighter.

It is not just a name or a shape. It is a little handmade detail that helps their room feel like theirs — personal, colourful, full of character and made with care.
